The Rebec is a medieval bowed string instrument widely used across Europe in the Middle Ages. It was played by troubadours, minstrels, and court musicians, and is considered one of the ancestors of modern bowed string instruments.

This instrument is our carefully crafted reconstruction, based on historical references, with subtle adjustments to improve stability, playability, and sound for modern use, while preserving its authentic character.

Its sound works equally well for solo playing and in ensemble settings, especially alongside voices, drums, or other early instruments, making the rebec well suited for singers, reenactors, and musicians interested in medieval and early music, and ideal for modal melodies, drones, improvisation, and creating a vivid medieval atmosphere.

We will make the same instrument as you see in the photo for you.
But it will have its own small differences and unique features since there are no two identical trees in the world.
Approximate manufacturing time will be from 8 to 10 weeks.

We use G4 D4 G3 tuning as standard

But upon request, we can tune another, but not higher.

For the top of the instrument, we use the highest quality resonant spruce, which is the key to the high-quality and deep sounding of all musical instruments.
We use an adjustable-tension bow, allowing the player to easily control the hair tension for a comfortable, intuitive playing experience and stable sound.
By default, we use metal strings, but we also offer the option to install gut strings for a more historically authentic sound.
